Sustainability
We consider fashion to be more than just clothes, and it is for this reason that we do our utmost to manufacture our collection in a socially responsible manner. In this way, we can also give something back to society. Pretentious? Not at all! It is the very soul of our brand.

Green
Where possible, we use environmentally-friendly materials. All our cotton basics, for example, are made from organic cotton. By using crop protection products of natural origin, organic farmers are contributing to a healthy living environment; a comforting idea. Another example is Tencel, a delightfully soft fabric made from eucalyptus trees. We have discovered that the material is both comfortable and socially responsible, which further increases that positive feeling gained when you wear these clothes. Our green e-labels show that your garment has been made using environmentally-friendly material.
Factory
A lot goes into the production of our fabrics. It is an intensive process comprising many different stages. We try to purchase fabrics that we know to be both human and environmentally friendly.
These fabrics are then turned into garments in sewing factories and we consider good labour conditions there to be of paramount importance. Together with the Fair Wear Foundation, we monitor all our sewing factories and, where necessary, work together to ensure that improvements are made.

Shop
In order to take the environment into account, we transport as many of our garments as possible by boat. Moreover, the boxes we use for web shop sales are made from recycled material, and we compensate the CO2 emission resulting from all our postal deliveries.
We also take the environment into consideration in the Expresso shops and offices. We save energy where possible, use green power and recycle our waste. Of course this is only possible if everyone does their bit with enthusiasm - and they do!
Society
In addition to our efforts towards responsible manufacturing, we also invest a percentage of our profits in social projects. The Expresso Fashion Foundation was established with this in mind. The foundation supports charities that work along the same lines as we do, such as those that support initiatives to increase opportunities for women in developing countries.
Last but not least, we also donate Expresso clothing to the Stichting Hoop voor Morgen/Hope for Tomorrow Foundation, the Dress for Success initiative, and the aid organisation Zending Over Grenzen/Mission without Borders. When you wear our clothing, you are helping others at the same time!
Tips for enjoying your clothes in an environmentally-friendly manner
As a client, you can make a significant contribution to creating a better environment. Of course, you help simply by wearing our clothes, but we would also like to give you a few tips:
• You don’t need to wash your clothes every time you wear them; just hanging them up and airing them is often enough.
• Use environmentally-friendly detergents, for example those bearing the European Eco label.
• Washing at 30°C is adequate if your clothes are not very dirty; this also helps your clothes last longer.
• Dry your washing outside instead of in the tumble dryer when the weather is fine!
• Never throw clothes away but donate them to an organisation that will make others happy with your contribution or recycle the materials used.
We are proud of the way in which our clothing is made and love to tell people about it. You can find further information about sustainability in the (Dutch) brochure below, on our clothing labels or by reading the Expresso magazine.
